Ingredients

  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Oil spray, for air frying

Instructions

  1. Peel and thinly slice the onion. Place slices in a bowl and cover with buttermilk. Let soak for at least 15 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Remove onions from buttermilk, shake off excess, and coat in the flour mixture in batches, ensuring each piece is evenly coated.
  4. Preheat air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Spray basket lightly with oil. Place onions in a single layer, spray tops with oil, and air fry for 8–10 minutes, shaking halfway through. Watch closely near the end.
