Ingredients
- 4 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 3/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 1/2 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a small baking dish with a little of the butter.
- Peel the potatoes and slice them thinly so they cook evenly.
- In a small bowl mix the heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper.
- Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish.
- Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes.
- Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
- Add the remaining potatoes in an even layer.
- Pour the rest of the cream mixture over the top.
- Dot the remaining butter over the dish.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
- Remove the foil, sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese on top, and bake for another 15–20 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is melted and lightly golden.
- Let the dish rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Slice the potatoes thinly (about 1/8 inch) for even cooking.
- Covering the dish during the first bake helps soften the potatoes.
- Add chopped parsley or dried herbs for extra flavor.
- Mix a little cheddar cheese with mozzarella for a deeper flavor.
- A pinch of paprika can add color and mild warmth.
- Let the dish rest briefly before serving so the sauce thickens slightly.
