Chewy, rich blondies made with nutty brown butter, brown sugar, and melty chocolate. An easy yet indulgent dessert perfect for any occasion.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 9 to 16 squares

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped chocolate or chocolate chips (milk or dark)
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Continue cooking until golden brown and fragrant. Pour into a mixing bowl and let cool slightly.
  3. Stir in brown sugar and granulated sugar until blended.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla, mixing until smooth and slightly thickened.
  5. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl, then fold into the wet mixture.
  6. Fold in chopped chocolate and nuts if using.
  7. Spread batter evenly in the prepared pan.
  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until edges are set and center is soft but no longer wet.
  9. Cool completely in pan before slicing into squares.

Notes

  • Substitute white chocolate for a sweeter version.
  • Add caramel swirl or dried cranberries for variety.
  • Don’t overmix or overbake to keep blondies chewy.
  • Double the recipe for a 9×13-inch pan and adjust baking time accordingly.
  • Freeze individually wrapped squares for up to two months.
