Ingredients
1 lb ground beef (or lamb/chicken)
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2–3 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 head green cabbage, thinly sliced
1 tbsp tomato paste (or 1 tsp tomato concentrate)
1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes (or 2 fresh tomatoes, peeled and chopped)
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp black pepper
Salt, to taste
2–3 tbsp olive oil or butter
1 cup water or beef broth
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef, season lightly, and cook until browned.
- Stir in chopped onion and garlic. Cook for 3–4 minutes until softened and fragrant.
- Add tomato paste, diced tomatoes, paprika, and black pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Stir in the sliced cabbage. It will look like a lot, but it cooks down.
- Pour in water or broth, cover, and let simmer for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender.
- Adjust seasoning as needed. Serve hot, topped with parsley if desired, and enjoy with crusty bread or rice.
Notes
- Add chili flakes or hot sauce for a spicy version.
- Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter dish.
- A splash of vinegar or lemon juice at the end adds brightness.
- Top with shredded cheese and broil for a cheesy version.
- Red cabbage can be used as a substitute, though the flavor and color will vary.
