Ingredients
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet instant yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
- ¾ cup warm milk
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Filling:
- ½ cup softened butter
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- Cream Cheese Layer:
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Glaze (optional):
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, granulated sugar, and instant yeast. Stir and let sit briefly.
- Add the egg, melted butter, and salt. Gradually mix in flour until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. In a separate bowl, blend the cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Roll the dough into a 12×16-inch rectangle. Spread softened butter over the surface, sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar mixture, and lightly spread the cream cheese mixture on top.
- Roll the dough tightly from the long edge and slice into 12 rolls. Arrange rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes or until puffy.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 25–30 minutes until lightly golden.
- Optional: Mix powdered sugar with milk and drizzle glaze over warm rolls before serving.
Notes
- Use softened cream cheese for easy spreading.
- Add nuts or spices like nutmeg for variation.
- Make ahead by refrigerating shaped rolls overnight and baking fresh the next day.
