Ingredients
- 1 bag microwave popcorn, popped
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Pop the popcorn and place it in a large bowl, removing any unpopped kernels.
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, water, and butter. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- If desired, add a few drops of food coloring once the mixture begins to boil.
- Stir and boil the mixture for about 4 minutes until dissolved and glossy.
- Quickly drizzle the hot mixture over the popcorn and stir immediately to coat evenly.
- Spread the coated popcorn on wax paper in a single layer and let it cool completely.
- Once cooled, break apart any large clusters and enjoy.
Notes
- Work quickly when mixing the coating to ensure even coverage before it hardens.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain crispness.
- Add flavored extracts like vanilla or almond for a fun twist.
- Sprinkle candy bits or colored sugar while the coating is still warm for decoration.
