A rich and comforting French-style creamy garlic chicken made in one pan with tender chicken simmered in a smooth garlic herb cream sauce. Perfect served with pasta, rice, or crusty bread for a satisfying meal.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 500 g chicken breast, cut into medium pieces
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 5 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken pieces with salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and sear the chicken for 5–6 minutes until golden brown on both sides. Remove the chicken and set aside.
  3. Reduce heat to medium and add butter to the same pan.
  4. Add the chopped onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until soft.
  5. Add minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  6. Pour in the chicken broth and scrape the browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  7. Stir in the heavy cream, dried thyme, and dried parsley.
  8. Return the chicken to the skillet and simmer for 8–10 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and the sauce thickens.
  9. Stir in grated parmesan cheese and lemon juice.
  10. Cook for another 2 minutes until the sauce becomes smooth and creamy.
  11. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • Boneless chicken thighs can be used instead of chicken breast for extra juiciness.
  • Add sliced mushrooms when cooking the onions for a mushroom variation.
  • Fresh spinach can be stirred in during the final minutes of cooking.
  • If the sauce becomes too thick, add a small splash of milk or chicken broth.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat gently on the stovetop with a little milk or broth to maintain a creamy texture.
