Crispy air fryer apple fries made with fresh apple slices coated in a lightly spiced crispy breading and air-fried until golden. These sweet treats have a crunchy exterior and tender apple center, perfect for snacks or desserts.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4–6 servings

Ingredients

  • 23 large Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Cooking spray or 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (optional cinnamon sugar coating)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional cinnamon sugar coating)
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt (optional dipping sauce)

Instructions

  1. Wash, peel, and core the apples, then slice them into fry-shaped sticks about 1/2 inch thick.
  2. Place the apple slices in a bowl and toss them with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  3. Prepare three bowls: one with flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg; one with beaten eggs and vanilla extract; and one with panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Dredge each apple slice in the flour mixture, then dip it into the egg mixture, and finally coat it with the panko breadcrumbs, pressing lightly so the coating sticks.
  5. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  6. Arrange the coated apple fries in a single layer in the basket, leaving space between each piece.
  7. Lightly spray the tops with cooking spray.
  8. Air fry at 193°C (380°F) for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
  9. If desired, toss the hot apple fries in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  10. Serve warm with caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt for dipping.

Notes

  • Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp so they hold their shape during cooking.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure crispiness.
  • Lightly spraying with oil helps achieve a golden crust.
  • Crushed cornflakes or crackers can replace breadcrumbs for a different texture.
  • Serve immediately for the best crisp texture.
