Ingredients
- 1 pound mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks (about 1/2-inch thick)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Vegetable oil for frying (heated to about 350°F)
Instructions
- Cut mozzarella into even sticks.
- Set up three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, onion powder, and salt.
- Coat each cheese stick in flour, then dip in egg, then roll in breadcrumbs.
- Place coated sticks on a parchment-lined tray and freeze for 15–20 minutes.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to about 350°F.
- Fry sticks in small batches for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
- Drain on paper towels and serve hot with dipping sauce.
Notes
- Freeze coated sticks before frying to prevent cheese leakage.
- Swap breadcrumbs for panko, crushed chips, or pretzels for different textures.
- Add cayenne or red pepper flakes to the coating for spice.
- Use string cheese for a quicker option.
- Bake at 400°F for 10–12 minutes for a lighter version.
