- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- For the Gravy:
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined.
- Shape mixture into 6–8 oval patties.
- Arrange patties in a single layer in the prepared baking dish.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Whisk in flour and cook 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth. Add milk, salt, pepper, and thyme. Stir constantly until smooth and thickened, about 4–5 minutes.
- Pour gravy evenly over the patties.
- Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until beef reaches 160°F (71°C) and gravy is bubbling.
- Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Do not overmix the beef to keep patties tender.
- 80/20 beef provides best flavor and moisture.
- Add mushrooms to the gravy for extra depth.
- Store refrigerated up to 4 days.
- Dish can be frozen up to 3 months.
