Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 yellow onion, finely diced
- 8 oz tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 to 6 slices bread (white or whole wheat)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
- 1 tablespoon butter (for toasting bread)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer on low heat for 8–10 minutes until thickened.
- Butter bread slices and toast until golden and crispy.
- Spoon sloppy joe mixture over each toast.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
- Broil or bake for 2–3 minutes until cheese is melted.
- Serve immediately while hot.
