Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 lb Italian turkey sausage
11 cups cottage cheese
3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
About 12 lasagna noodles (cooked or oven-ready)
1 jar (24 oz) marinara or pasta sauce
1 egg (optional, for mixing with cottage cheese)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Fresh parsley or basil (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef and turkey sausage over medium heat until browned; drain excess grease.
- Stir marinara sauce into the meat and simmer for 5 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix cottage cheese with egg (if using), salt, and pepper.
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Layer noodles, cottage cheese mixture, meat sauce, and mozzarella. Repeat layers until ingredients are used, ending with mozzarella on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Swap meat for sautéed spinach, mushrooms, and zucchini for a vegetarian version.
- Use ricotta cheese for a more traditional Italian flavor.
- Add red pepper flakes or hot Italian sausage for a spicier kick.
- Drain meat well to prevent watery lasagna.
- Let lasagna rest 10–15 minutes before slicing for best results.
