Ingredients
- 2¼ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup lukewarm milk
- ¼ cup lukewarm water
- 1 tsp active dry yeast
- 2 tsp sugar
- 5½ tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp salt
- Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix lukewarm milk, water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour and salt. Mix to form a soft dough.
- Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle.
- Cut into 1-inch wide strips and place on a lined baking tray.
- Melt butter and mix with garlic, oregano, black pepper, and a pinch of salt. Brush generously over the dough strips.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 15–18 minutes, until lightly golden.
- Brush with extra garlic butter after baking if desired.
Notes
- Add grated cheese before baking for cheesy bread sticks.
- Mix chili flakes or Italian seasoning into the garlic butter for added flavor.
- Brush with olive oil instead of butter for a lighter version.
- Store at room temp for 2 days or refrigerate for up to 4 days.
- Reheat in oven at 160°C (325°F) to maintain texture.
