Ingredients
1 tablespoon olive oil, plus more for drizzling
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 pound ground beef
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Salt and pepper, to taste
3 cups hummus
4 pitas
Optional toppings: chickpeas, feta, olives, pickles, tomatoes, fresh parsley
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Add ground beef, cumin, paprika, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Cook, breaking up the meat, until browned and no pink remains, 5–7 minutes. Adjust seasoning if needed.
- Spoon about 3/4 cup hummus into each of four bowls, smoothing with the back of a spoon and creating a shallow well in the center.
- Top each bowl with the cooked beef and desired toppings such as chickpeas, feta, olives, pickles, tomatoes, or parsley.
- Drizzle with olive oil and serve with warmed pita.
Notes
- Swap ground beef for ground lamb, chicken, turkey, or tofu.
- For a vegetarian version, omit meat and use extra chickpeas or roasted vegetables.
- Try flavored hummus like roasted red pepper or caramelized onion for variety.
- Add toppings like cucumber, banana peppers, or harissa for extra flavor.
- Store beef and hummus separately for up to 5 days; reheat beef gently before serving.
