An easy, hearty twist on a classic cheesesteak, these Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteaks are packed with savory ground beef, sautéed veggies, and melted cheese in a soft hoagie roll. Perfect for quick dinners or casual gatherings.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 sandwiches

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add sliced onions and bell peppers, cooking for 3–5 minutes until softened. Add mushrooms if using and cook until tender.
  3. Push vegetables to one side of the skillet. Add ground beef and cook for 5–7 minutes, breaking it up with a spatula until browned.
  4. Stir in garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix well with the vegetables.
  5. Lower heat and place provolone slices over the beef. Cover the skillet for 2–3 minutes until the cheese melts.
  6. Slice hoagie rolls and toast lightly if desired. Spoon cheesy beef mixture into each roll.
  7. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • Use cheddar, mozzarella, or American cheese for variety.
  • Add sliced jalapeños or red pepper flakes for heat.
  • Include extra veggies like spinach or zucchini for more nutrition.
  • Toast the rolls to prevent sogginess.
  • Store the filling separately from rolls for leftovers.
