Ingredients
- 2–3 ripe avocados
- 1–2 tablespoons fresh lime juice (about 1 lime)
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped white or red onion
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 jalapeño or serrano pepper, finely chopped (seeded for less heat)
- ½ teaspoon salt, or to taste
Instructions
- Cut avocados in half, remove pits, and scoop flesh into a medium bowl.
- Mash avocados with a fork until you reach your desired consistency (chunky or smooth).
- Add lime juice and mix to combine and prevent browning.
- Stir in onion, cilantro, and chopped pepper.
- Season with salt to taste. Stir again and adjust flavors as needed.
- Serve immediately or store with plastic wrap pressed directly on the surface to reduce browning.
Notes
- Add diced tomatoes for a chunkier texture and mild sweetness.
- For a creamy twist, mix in sour cream or Greek yogurt.
- Add a pinch of smoked paprika or roasted garlic for a smoky flavor.
- Leave in some pepper seeds or use hot sauce for extra spice.
- Best served fresh, but can be stored for up to 1 day with tight plastic wrap.
