Soft, chewy, and buttery Rice Krispies Treats made with gooey marshmallows and crisp cereal for a classic no-bake dessert that is quick, simple, and loved by all ages.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
  • Yield: 12 squares

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup salted butter
  • 15 ounces mini marshmallows, divided (reserve 1 cup)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 9 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • Pinch of salt (optional, if using unsalted butter)

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
  3. Add the mini marshmallows, reserving 1 cup for later, and stir until fully melted and smooth.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Add a pinch of salt if using unsalted butter.
  5. Add the Rice Krispies cereal and the reserved 1 cup of mini marshmallows.
  6. Gently fold the mixture until the cereal is evenly coated.
  7. Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan.
  8. Using a buttered spatula, wax paper, or lightly buttered hands, gently press the mixture into an even layer without packing it too firmly.
  9. Allow the treats to cool and set at room temperature for about 1 hour.
  10. Cut into 12 squares and serve.

Notes

  • Avoid overheating the marshmallows to keep the treats soft and chewy.
  • Press the mixture gently into the pan to prevent hard bars.
  • Add sprinkles, chocolate candies, or crushed cookies for fun variations.
  • Drizzle melted chocolate or white chocolate over cooled bars for extra flavor.
  • Melt a few tablespoons of peanut butter with the butter for a peanut butter version.
  • Lightly butter your spatula or hands to prevent sticking when pressing the mixture.
  • Let the bars cool completely before cutting for cleaner squares.
