Savory bite-sized sausage balls made with creamy cheese, spicy Rotel tomatoes with green chilies, and seasoned sausage, baked until golden and tender.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef sausage or halal turkey sausage
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 (10-ounce / 283 g) can Rotel diced tomatoes with green chilies, well drained
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/4 cups baking mix (such as biscuit baking mix)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. In a large mixing bowl combine the ground sausage and softened cream cheese.
  3. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
  4. Stir in the drained Rotel diced tomatoes with green chilies.
  5. Add shredded cheddar cheese and baking mix and mix until evenly combined.
  6. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper.
  7. Roll the mixture into balls about 1 inch in diameter using your hands or a small scoop.
  8. Place the sausage balls on the prepared baking sheet leaving space between them.
  9. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown and fully cooked.
  10. Allow them to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Drain the Rotel tomatoes well to prevent excess moisture.
  • Use spicy Rotel or add cayenne pepper for extra heat.
  • Monterey Jack or mozzarella can replace cheddar cheese.
  • The mixture can be prepared a day ahead and refrigerated before baking.
  • Serve with ranch dressing, spicy mayo, or cheese sauce for dipping.
