Ingredients
- 7 grams dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 375 milliliters warm water
- 500 grams all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix yeast, sugar, and half the warm water. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add the rest of the water, flour, salt, and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface (or use a dough hook) for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled (1 to 1½ hours).
- Punch down dough, divide into 10–12 equal pieces, shape into balls, and place on a parchment-lined baking tray.
- Cover and let rise again until puffed (30–45 minutes).
- Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). Bake rolls for 18–20 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
- Swap 100g of flour with whole wheat for a heartier texture.
- Add herbs or garlic powder to the dough for savory rolls.
- Brush with melted butter or egg wash for a golden top.
- For sweet rolls, add honey and sprinkle with sugar before baking.
- Use warm milk instead of water for a softer crumb and richer flavor.
