Ingredients
- 4½ cups bread flour, divided
- 1½ tablespoons instant yeast
- ¼ cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1¼ cups milk, warmed to about 110°F
- 4 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- For the honey butter glaze:
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
Instructions
- In a stand mixer bowl, combine 3 cups flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Stir to blend.
- Add warm milk, softened butter, and egg. Mix on low speed until just combined.
- Gradually add remaining flour, mixing until dough is soft and slightly sticky but pulls from the bowl.
- Transfer dough to a greased bowl. Cover and let rise at room temperature until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 18 equal portions. Shape into smooth balls and place in a greased baking dish.
- Cover and let rise again until puffy, about 20–30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 15–17 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While hot, brush generously with honey butter glaze. Let soak in before serving.
Notes
- Substitute part of the milk with cream for a richer dough.
- Increase honey for a sweeter glaze or reduce it for savory meals.
- Refrigerate dough overnight for an easy make-ahead option.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature up to 2 days.
- Reheat in microwave or oven until soft and warm.
