Honey Butter Mashed Sweet Potatoes are a creamy, comforting side dish made with sweet potatoes, butter, honey, and warm spices. Quick to prepare and perfect for both weeknight dinners and holiday feasts.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup raw honey
  • 1/2 cup whole milk or heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Peel and chop sweet potatoes into even chunks. Place in a large pot of cold water.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and cook for 15–20 minutes, until fork-tender. Drain well.
  3. Return potatoes to the pot and mash until smooth.
  4. Stir in butter and honey while potatoes are still warm.
  5. Gradually add milk or cream, mixing until desired consistency is reached.
  6. Season with salt and cinnamon, adjusting to taste.
  7. Serve warm, with optional extra honey drizzle or butter on top.

Notes

  • Swap butter with vegan butter or coconut oil and use dairy-free milk for a vegan version.
  • Replace honey with brown sugar for a deeper flavor.
  • Add nutmeg or ground ginger for more spice.
  • Top with marshmallows and broil for a festive version.
  • Mix in chopped pecans for added crunch.
