Ingredients
- 8 slices thick-cut bread (brioche or Texas toast)
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened (for the filling)
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for the filling)
- 2 tablespoons butter (for cooking)
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Maple syrup or extra honey for serving
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, honey, and optional vanilla extract until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt to create the custard mixture.
- Spread the honey-butter mixture on four slices of bread, then top each with another slice to form sandwiches.
- Cut each sandwich into 3–4 sticks.
- Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt 2 tablespoons of butter.
- Dip each stick into the custard, allowing excess to drip off.
- Cook each stick for 2–4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crisp.
- Remove from skillet, dust with powdered sugar, and serve immediately with maple syrup or extra honey.
Notes
- Use thick-cut bread to prevent sogginess and hold the filling.
- For prep ahead, assemble sandwiches and refrigerate overnight.
- Add fruit slices or flavored spreads for variation.
- Freeze cooked sticks and reheat in the oven or toaster for quick breakfasts.
