Ingredients
- 1 1/2 ounces chilled neutral spirit
- 1/2 ounce orange liqueur
- 1 ounce fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 ounce simple syrup
- 1 cup ice cubes
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (for the glass rim)
- 1 lemon wedge (for moistening the rim)
- 1 lemon twist (for garnish)
Instructions
- Place a martini glass in the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes to chill.
- Rub a lemon wedge around the rim of the glass to moisten it.
- Pour granulated sugar onto a small plate and dip the rim of the glass into the sugar, rotating to coat evenly.
- In a cocktail shaker, combine the neutral spirit, orange liqueur, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup.
- Add about 1 cup of ice cubes to the shaker.
- Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 15 to 20 seconds until very cold.
- Strain the mixture into the prepared sugar-rimmed martini glass.
- Twist a strip of lemon peel over the drink to release its oils and place it on the rim or inside the glass as garnish.
- Serve immediately while well chilled.
Notes
- Fresh lemon juice provides the best bright citrus flavor.
- Adjust the sweetness by increasing or reducing the simple syrup.
- Chilling the glass helps keep the drink cold longer.
- Use fresh ice cubes to avoid excessive dilution.
- The drink can be pre-mixed (without ice) and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before shaking and serving.
