Ingredients
- Apple Filling:
- 1½ cups apples, peeled and finely diced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Donuts:
- 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough (8 biscuits)
- 2 to 3 cups vegetable oil, for frying
- Optional Toppings:
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- ¼ cup granulated sugar mixed with ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ cup simple glaze
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add diced apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring often, until apples are soft and syrupy. Set aside to cool slightly.
- Flatten each biscuit into a small circle. Place 1 tablespoon of apple filling in the center, fold over, and pinch edges closed. Gently roll into a ball.
- Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat to about 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts in small batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Finish with powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, or glaze as desired. Serve warm.
Notes
- Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for best texture.
- Donuts can be baked at 375°F for 12–15 minutes as a lighter option.
- Make the apple filling ahead and store refrigerated until use.
- Cook in a waffle maker for a unique twist.
