Ingredients
2 pounds boneless beef, cut into bite-sized pieces
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1 cup beef broth
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 packet gravy mix (any flavor)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Fresh herbs, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Season beef with salt and pepper.
- In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Sear beef until browned on all sides (5–7 minutes).
- Add chopped onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
- Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring to combine.
- Sprinkle in the gravy mix and stir until blended.
- Simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes, until beef is tender and gravy has thickened.
- Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
Notes
- Add mushrooms for an earthy flavor.
- Swap some broth for red wine for richer depth.
- Spice it up with cayenne or crushed red pepper flakes.
- For a slow cooker version: Cook on low 6–8 hours for extra tender beef.
- Chuck roast, sirloin tips, or stew meat all work well in this recipe.
