Classic homemade Rice Krispies Treats that are buttery, soft, and perfectly chewy, made with simple pantry ingredients and no baking required.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup salted butter (1 stick)
  • 15 ounces mini marshmallows (reserve 1 cup)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 9 cups Rice Krispies cereal

Instructions

  1. Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat.
  3. Add marshmallows (reserve 1 cup) and stir until completely melted and smooth.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Fold in cereal and reserved marshmallows until evenly coated.
  6. Transfer mixture to prepared pan and gently press into an even layer without compacting too firmly.
  7. Allow to cool at room temperature for 1 hour until set.
  8. Cut into 12 squares and serve.

Notes

  • Melt marshmallows over low heat to prevent hard treats.
