This slow cooker version of Cracker Barrel–style fried apples delivers tender apple wedges coated in a sweet, spiced sauce. Easy to prepare and perfect as a dessert, side dish, or topping for breakfast favorites.

Ingredients

  • 34 lbs apples, peeled, cored, and sliced into wedges
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup apple juice or water
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and slice apples into thick wedges. Place them in the slow cooker.
  2. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Sprinkle the mixture over the apples and toss gently to coat.
  4. Pour apple juice or water over the apples and add vanilla extract.
  5. Distribute butter pieces evenly on top.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 3–4 hours or on high for 1½–2 hours, stirring once or twice.
  7. Once apples are tender and glossy, serve warm.
