Ingredients
- 4 slices sandwich bread (white, whole wheat, or sourdough)
- 1 cup cooked spaghetti (plain or lightly salted)
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine cooked spaghetti with marinara sauce and mix until evenly coated.
- Lay out bread slices and spread a thin layer of softened butter on one side of each slice.
- Flip slices so unbuttered sides face up. Sprinkle 1/4 cup mozzarella on two slices.
- Spoon half of the spaghetti mixture over the cheese on each slice, spreading evenly and keeping away from edges.
- Top with remaining mozzarella and sprinkle with Parmesan if using.
- Place remaining bread slices on top, buttered side facing outward.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. Cook sandwiches for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently, until golden brown and cheese is melted.
- Remove from heat and let rest 1–2 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
Notes
- Avoid adding too much sauce to prevent soggy bread.
- Cook over medium-low heat to ensure cheese melts before bread over-browns.
- Sprinkle Parmesan on the buttered exterior for extra crispiness.
- Best enjoyed fresh but can be refrigerated up to 2 days.
- Reheat in a skillet or oven for best texture; avoid microwaving if possible.
