Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons steak sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 4 to 6 hamburger buns
- 1 to 1½ cups shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and bell pepper; cook for about 5 minutes until softened and slightly caramelized.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks; drain excess grease if needed.
- Stir in chicken broth, steak sauce, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup.
- Simmer for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese over the beef mixture and let it melt.
- Spoon the mixture onto toasted hamburger buns and serve hot.
Notes
- Use provolone, mozzarella, cheddar, or Swiss cheese depending on preference.
- Toast buns to prevent them from getting soggy.
- You can substitute the beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- The filling can be made ahead and reheated before serving.
