Ingredients
- 2 large onions (white or yellow)
- 24–30 mozzarella cheese sticks or strips
- 20–30 pepperoni slices
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2–3 eggs, beaten
- 1½–2 cups breadcrumbs
- Oil for frying (or cooking spray for baking/air frying)
Instructions
- Peel onions and slice into ½–¾ inch thick rings. Separate and pair rings to create gaps for filling.
- Fill gaps with mozzarella strips and tuck in 1–2 pepperoni slices.
- Freeze the stuffed rings for 20–30 minutes to firm up.
- Coat each ring in flour, then dip in beaten eggs, and coat with breadcrumbs.
- Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry rings for 2–3 minutes per side until golden.
- Drain on paper towels or a cooling rack and serve warm with marinara sauce.
Notes
- Freeze rings before frying to prevent cheese from leaking.
- Add Italian seasoning or garlic powder to breadcrumbs for extra flavor.
- Use panko for added crunch.
- To bake: cook at 425°F (220°C) for 15–18 minutes. To air fry: cook at 380°F (193°C) for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway.
