These blanket dumplings are a lighter, high-protein take on the viral comfort food favorite. Made with lean ground turkey, fresh vegetables, and tender wonton wrappers, they feature crispy bottoms, juicy filling, and savory flavor in every bite.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 28 dumplings

Ingredients

  • 1 lb 93/7 lean ground turkey
  • 1/3 cup fresh grated carrot (36 g)
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced green onion (18 g)
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic (15 g)
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger (15 g)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (15 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (15 ml)
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil (10 g)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 28 wonton wrappers (187 g)
  • 1/2 cup water for steaming
  • Chili crisp oil for topping (optional)
  • Additional sliced green onion for garnish (optional)
  • Cooking spray or a small amount of oil for the pan

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the ground turkey, grated carrot, green onion, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly combined.
  3. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat and lightly coat with cooking spray or oil.
  4. Using a spoon or small cookie scoop, place small portions of the turkey mixture directly into the pan to form meatballs.
  5. Allow the meatballs to cook for about 2 minutes so the bottoms begin to brown.
  6. Place a wonton wrapper over each meatball and gently press the sides downward to create the blanket effect.
  7. Pour 1/2 cup water into the pan and immediately cover with a lid.
  8. Steam the dumplings for 6 to 8 minutes until the wrappers become slightly translucent and the turkey is fully cooked.
  9. Remove the lid and cook for 1 additional minute if needed to evaporate excess moisture and crisp the bottoms.
  10. Transfer the dumplings to serving plates.
  11. Top with chili crisp oil, soy sauce, and extra green onion if desired.
  12. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Ground chicken can be substituted for turkey.
  • Add mushrooms, cabbage, spinach, or zucchini for extra vegetables.
  • Mix sriracha or chili garlic sauce into the filling for more heat.
  • Use low-sodium soy sauce to reduce sodium content.
  • These dumplings reheat well and are excellent for meal prep.
  • Freeze cooked dumplings for up to 2 months.
  • Reheat by steaming in a covered skillet with a splash of water.
  • A nonstick skillet helps prevent sticking and keeps the bottoms crispy.
