Ingredients

  • 1 lb brisket
  • 1 cup bourbon
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 8 slices thick-cut bread or waffle equivalent
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Season brisket with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.
  2. Place in a slow cooker or deep pan and pour bourbon and maple syrup over it.
  3. Cook on low for 6–8 hours until tender.
  4. Shred brisket and return it to the cooking liquid for 10–15 minutes.
  5. Prepare waffles or lightly toast bread.
  6. Butter one side of each slice or waffle.
  7. Place one slice butter-side down in a skillet, add cheese, brisket, and more cheese.
  8. Top with another slice butter-side up.
  9. Cook until golden and crispy, then flip and cook until cheese melts.
  10. Serve hot.
