  • Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Yield: 12–16 bars

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F) and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add melted butter and vanilla extract and stir until crumbly.
  3. Reserve 1 cup of the mixture for topping and press the rest into the pan to form the crust.
  4. Bake crust for 15 minutes until lightly golden.
  5. In another bowl, combine apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch.
  6. Spread apple mixture evenly over the pre-baked crust.
  7. Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture on top.
  8. Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden and apples are tender.
  9. Cool completely, then drizzle caramel sauce over the top.
  10. Cut into bars and serve.

Notes

  • Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for best flavor.
  • Press crust firmly to prevent crumbling.
  • Allow bars to cool fully before slicing for clean cuts.
  • Add chopped nuts or oats to the topping for extra texture.
  • Store at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerate up to 5 days.
  • Microwave briefly before serving for a warm, soft texture.
  • Freeze for up to 3 months if needed.
