  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 2-3 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chicken breast, cut into small chunks or shredded
  • 2 tablespoons cornflour
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken by cutting into small bite-sized pieces or shredding if pre-cooked.
  2. In a bowl, mix chicken with cornflour, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
  4. Add the marinated chicken and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add 1 tablespoon water and continue cooking until the chicken is fully cooked and coated in a light, glossy sauce.
  6. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before using as a bao filling.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the chicken to keep it tender and juicy.
  • Add chili flakes or sauce for a spicy variation.
  • Mix in vegetables like bell peppers or carrots for extra texture.
  • Use chicken thighs for a juicier result.
  • Best served warm inside freshly steamed bao buns.
