Easy Cream Puff Cake is a light and creamy dessert featuring a buttery pastry crust, smooth vanilla cream filling, fluffy whipped topping, and a drizzle of chocolate syrup. It delivers the flavor of classic cream puffs in an easy sheet cake form perfect for gatherings and celebrations.

  • Total Time: 3 hours
  • Yield: 12 slices

Ingredients

  • For the crust:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 large eggs
  • For the filling:
  • 2 packages instant vanilla pudding mix (3.4 ounces each)
  • 3 cups cold milk
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • For the topping:
  • 1 container whipped topping, thawed
  • 1/4 cup chocolate syrup for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine butter and water and bring to a gentle boil.
  3. Add the flour all at once and stir quickly until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  4. Remove from heat and let the dough cool for about 5 minutes.
  5. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition until smooth and glossy.
  6. Spread the dough evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  7. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Cool completely.
  8. Beat the softened cream cheese in a large bowl until smooth.
  9. In another bowl, whisk together the pudding mix and cold milk until thickened.
  10. Fold the pudding mixture into the cream cheese and mix until creamy.
  11. Spread the filling evenly over the cooled crust.
  12. Top with whipped topping and smooth evenly.
  13. Drizzle chocolate syrup over the top.
  14. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • The pastry crust may deflate slightly as it cools, which is completely normal.
  • Make sure the cream cheese is softened for a smooth filling.
  • This dessert tastes even better after chilling overnight.
  • Chocolate pudding can be used instead of vanilla for a richer flavor.
  • Fresh fruit such as strawberries or bananas makes a delicious addition.
  • Homemade whipped cream can replace store-bought whipped topping.
  • Keep the cake refrigerated until ready to serve.
