Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup cooked beans (pinto or black beans)
  • 1/2 cup green chiles, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Oaxaca cheese

  • optional: sour cream
  • optional: fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Add warm water gradually and mix to form a soft dough.
  3. Knead for 3–4 minutes until smooth, then cover and rest for 20 minutes.
  4. Divide dough into portions, shape into balls, and flatten into discs.
  5. Heat oil and fry each disc until golden brown on both sides.
  6. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Heat olive oil in a skillet and cook ground beef until browned.
  8. Add garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  9. Stir in beans and green chiles and cook for 3–5 minutes.
  10. Place fry bread on a plate and top with beef mixture.
  11. Sprinkle Oaxaca cheese over hot mixture to melt.
  12. Add optional toppings and serve immediately.
