- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup milk
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, combine blackberries, water, sugar, and salt.
- Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- Reduce heat and let simmer for about 5 minutes until berries release their juices.
- Stir in the lemon juice.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Add melted butter and milk, stirring until just combined into a soft dough.
- Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the simmering blackberry sauce, spacing them evenly.
- Cover the pan with a lid and cook for 12–15 minutes without lifting the lid.
- Check that dumplings are puffed and firm, then remove from heat.
- Let rest for a few minutes before serving warm.
Notes
- Do not overmix the dough to keep dumplings light and fluffy.
- Keep the lid closed while cooking to trap steam.
- Frozen blackberries can be used without thawing.
- Adjust sugar depending on berry sweetness.
- Add vanilla or warm spices like cinnamon for extra flavor.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a richer dessert.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave with a splash of water.
