Instructions
- Heat milk in a saucepan until gently simmering.
- In a bowl, whisk egg yolks, sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
- Slowly add hot milk to the egg mixture while whisking, then return to saucepan.
- Cook over medium-low heat, stirring until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Set aside.
- Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F) and grease a 9-inch cake pan.
- Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in apples, cinnamon, and raisins.
- Pour batter into pan and bake for 40–45 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool slightly and serve warm with custard sauce.
