  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (about 250g), thawed if frozen
  • 250g minced beef or lamb
  • 1 cup grated cheese (about 120g)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (about 80g)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat and sauté the chopped onion until soft and lightly golden.
  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the minced meat and cook until browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  5. Season the filling with salt, black pepper, paprika, and chopped parsley. Stir well and remove from heat.
  6. Allow the filling to cool slightly before assembling the pastries.
  7. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into equal squares or rectangles.
  8. Place a spoonful of the meat filling in the center of each pastry piece.
  9. Sprinkle grated cheese over the meat filling.
  10. Brush the pastry edges with beaten egg.
  11. Fold the pastry over to form triangles or rectangles and press the edges firmly to seal.
  12. Arrange the pastries on the prepared baking tray.
  13. Brush the tops with the remaining egg wash.
  14. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the pastries are golden brown and puffed.
  15. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Allow the filling to cool before assembling to prevent soggy pastry.
  • Store-bought puff pastry works perfectly for convenience.
  • Mozzarella, cheddar, or feta cheese can be used for different flavors.
  • Add vegetables like mushrooms, spinach, or bell peppers for extra texture.
  • These pastries freeze well before or after baking.
  • Reheat in the oven or air fryer to maintain crispness.
  • Avoid microwaving if possible, as it softens the pastry.
