- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (360 ml)
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Extra honey for serving
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add vegetable shortening and mix until the texture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, dissolve honey in warm water.
- Gradually add the liquid mixture to the dry ingredients to form a soft dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Cover and let the dough rest for 30 minutes.
- Divide dough into two portions and roll each to about 1/4-inch thickness.
- Cut into squares or triangles.
- Heat oil to 190°C (375°F) in a deep pan.
- Fry each piece for 1–2 minutes per side until puffed and golden.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve warm with honey.
Notes
- Ensure oil is hot enough for proper puffing.

- Let dough rest to relax gluten.
- Serve immediately for best texture.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar for a sweeter option.
- Can be made savory by omitting honey in dough.
