This Strawberry Sweet Tea is a refreshing Southern-style drink made with freshly brewed black tea and sweet strawberries for a bright fruity flavor. Smooth, sweet, and easy to prepare, it’s perfect for warm days, barbecues, picnics, and family gatherings.

  • Total Time: 2 hours 25 minutes
  • Yield: 10 glasses

Ingredients

  • 8 cups water
  • 8 black tea bags
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • Ice cubes, for serving
  • Fresh strawberry slices and mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash, hull, and slice the strawberries. Set aside.
  2. In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a gentle boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Remove the pot from the heat and add the black tea bags and baking soda.
  4. Allow the tea to steep for 10 minutes.
  5. Remove the tea bags without squeezing them.
  6. Stir the granulated sugar into the warm tea until completely dissolved.
  7. In a blender, combine the sliced strawberries with 1 cup of water and blend until smooth.
  8. Pour the strawberry puree through a fine mesh strainer into the tea mixture if a smoother texture is desired.
  9. Add the remaining 3 cups of cold water and stir until combined.
  10. Transfer the tea to a large pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours until chilled.
  11. Serve over ice and garnish with fresh strawberry slices or mint leaves if desired.

Notes

  • Baking soda helps reduce bitterness in the tea and creates a smoother flavor.
  • Fresh strawberries provide the brightest flavor, but frozen strawberries also work well.
  • Adjust the sugar amount to suit your preferred sweetness level.
  • Straining the strawberry puree creates a smoother tea texture.
  • Keep ice separate until serving to avoid diluting the tea.
  • Fresh mint or lemon slices make refreshing additions.
  • Store the tea refrigerated and stir before serving if fruit settles.
